It's all a little bit self-indulgent.
Imagine if everyone went to say, "I am a...um,...well," before pausing and then moving on. "Did you watch the cricket." Divisions all over the world would be mended. Conflicts would cease. There would be peace on earth.
So, moving on to another observation:
In the 80s, it was individual and hip to be a "lefty"...
In the 90s, it was individual and hip to be a "conservative"...
From 2000 onwards, let me be the first to proclaim that it's now cool to be a "contingent" - that is, you can go either way depending on the issue or matter. You subscribe to a contingency theory of politics.
