Today is going to be a bit of a bare bones post. Im a bit tired and a bit busy with other shit, and i've been posting too much lately anyway. So maybe some pictures, some thoughts, some links and some house keeping stuff and that will be enough. Basically some very very mediocre E/N crap, instead of my usual marginally better then mediocre crap.

Nostradamus didn't know SHIT.
Nostradamus didn't know this was going to happen. He was just some crazy mystic from a long time ago. Nostradamus couldn't tell the future any better then New Idea, or Womans Day could. The quatrain i used for this is not real. Its fake. Its a hoax. Its a cut paste job of lines from other nostradamus quatrains, made to look coherant and prophetic. Sorry folks.... you dont get let off the hook that easy. You see, if Nostradamus knew this was going to happen.... then that means it was fated. It's would mean that irrespective of how america conducted its foregin policy, this was still going to happen. It would mean that, irrespecitve of the quality of american intelligence agencies, this was not avoidable. It would mean that irrespective of how lax FAA regulations and procedures are, this was still fated to happen. It would mean there was absolutely nothing America and the world could have done to avoid this tragic loss of life...... because even Nostradamus knew it was going to happen 350 years ago. But thats simply not the case. America makes many mistakes, and THAT is atleast partly why there is now a pile of concrete rubble and body parts, where the World Trade Center once stoood. It had very little to do with fate, nothing to do with Islam, everything to do with evil, and something to do with a lack of judgement on behalf of America.
Where did Osama Bin Laden go to Terrorist School? The (American) Central Intelligence Agency.
Which nation, with its sophisticated espionage, counter-terrorist and covert security organisations has to this date been unable to find and capture ONE man, a man that has already declared war on America, and has been known to have been involved in terrorist actions against said nation many times in the past, yet still manages to stay ahead of this world power?

Which nation mistakenly fought wars overseas, with the mistaken assumption that, its own borders were inpenatrable and its own soil, was untouchable by its ememies

Which nation claims to be a peaceful, peace keeping nation, yet refuses to pay their dues to the United Nations, the international peace keeper?

Which nation still holds a choker on the empoverished Iraqi people, because they want to depose of the Iraqi leader, AGAIN primarily because of oil concerns?

Which nation has entirely turned their back on human rights abuses in Nigeria, because most of it is state sponsored abuse on behalf of Oil giant, BP?

Which nation refuses to take steps that would reduce its economies dependence on petro-chemicals, and consequently reduce its need to be involved is so much of middle eastern politics, purely because said nations governing political party is heavily funded by the Petroleum Industry?

So don't tell me that it was fated for "silver phoenixes to strike down the twin brothers". Fate is what we make it. America decided to make it Osama bin Laden.
I do not mean to say that America deserves this sort of treatment at the hands of terrorists.
Nor do i mean to imply that i do not feel pitty for those that died and those that loved.
Nor am i berating the thousands in the WTC when it fell to the Manhattan streets below, the rescue workers that went to work too soon, passengers on the 2 United Airlines flights, passengers of the 2 American Airlines flights, workers at the pentagon, or those that lost loved ones. I don't even mean to berate americans generally. I mean to berate the Unites States Government, duty bound to PROTECT their citizens.
I conceed, that perhaps an article like this is better left written when the dead are buried, and people can begin to digest what happened. On the other hand, NOW more then ever, we need to think about what has happened, think about what it means, and think seriously about the next best step forward from here. We need to think now and grieve latter, instead of vice-versa.
So first of all..... there is the fact that bin Laden himself denies it. He could be lying. He has plenty of reason to lie. He wouldn't lie because he's scared of America.... but he might lie because hes shrewd enough to realise how much more intimidating it is for Americans to not know who is responsible for all this carnage. But still... the fact is he denies it.
Of course alot of the experts say that it MUST be Osama bin Laden.... because only he has the resources to do something as sophisticated as this. Before I go on, let me just remind people of what they've no doubt already heard.... atleast one of the planes that hit NY was hijacked by dudes with KNIVES. So exactly what resources does bin Laden have access to that makes him such a hardcore deadly terrorist? Some crazy Arabs and some knives? What The Fuck??? ANYBODY could have done this! The truth is, anybody with.... lets say a few dozen crazy Arabs at their disposal, some big knives, perhaps a watch for syncronisation, some Airline pamphlets with departure and arival times, could have done this.
If this is how poorly America defends itself from crazy arabs with knives, i fear to know how they will deal with crazy arabs with nukes.
I mean really.... no one has spoken enough about just how poorly the American Government has dealt with this catastrophe. First there was the fact that the government knew about the hijacked planes a good 30 minutes before the first one slammed into the WTC. Was there not even Air Force planes tailing these hijacked planes, ready to shoot them down if it should become necassary? Even more so for the 3rd plane, the one that hit the pentagon (was that the second or third plane?).... what's the point of having restricted airspace, if you wont restrict the airspace?? How fucking slack are Aviation Protocols in America? Aparently your allowed to bring knives onto American flights, provided their less then 4 inches long. Well.... it seems 4 inches was all the terrorists needed to do some pritty serious damage.
Dont think Bush's Misile Defence System, is going to save you. Terrorism comes from within. The threat of trans-continental nukes from terrorists is minamal. The real threat comes from that seemingly innocuous pickup van that carries a huge nuclear weapon in the back. So how you going to deal with that? If you think i'm just trying to scare you, your right..... because you should be.

The Shit will hit the fan.
I had just logged onto IRC. People were going nuts. EVERYONE on DALnet was talking about America Burning. #USA was moderated. #NewYork was invite only. #cnn and #news were PACKED. I switching on the ABC (the Australian ABC), to get the CNN coverage. And flicked back and forth between that and the ABC (the American ABC) coverage.My initial reaction was,
- 1: Ahhhhh that Osama Bin Laden is such a card isn't he eh! What a larrikin!!
- 2: Phew, im not in America.
- 3: Phew, no one i love, is in America.
- 4: If World War III starts, and compulsory conscription takes effect in Australia, i'm ready to crawl up into the foetal position and babble incoherantly for as long as necassary.
ME: Ahh all will be well. Its only 9:30. Surely ALL 4 TV STATIONS cant be going to cover "America Burning" for THE NEXT 3 HOURS. This will just be like a news bulletin and then we will get back into the regular programs. Surely they can't be going to show that plane ploughing into the WTC over and over again for the next 3 hours. No that would be stupid.
At this stage i'm still confident i will get to see The West Wing.
2 Hours pass.
ME: OSAMA BIN LADEN MUST DIE!!!!!!!! I HAVE SEEN THAT FUCKING PLANE PLOUGH INTO THAT BIG GAY BUILDING 126 TIMES!!!!! WHERE IS THE WEST WING?????
For instance, let me relate to you a conversation i had with a tutor at university...

Me: Hey Boss, what time you want me to come in on Monday morning?And Robert's your auntie's lover.... i get a month long holiday from work.
My Boss: Don't bother. We're not open. They have evacuated the Shopping Center, in case Osama Bin Laden should fly a plane into the place.

America Under Attack.... from those awful pilots
The Pilots Liberation Organisation (PLO), yesterday continued their Industrial action against airliners, United Airlines and American Airlines. The Pilots, demand an extra week of paid holidays, and free Airline food on all flights. PLO boss, Di Yonplayn, said yesterday in a press conference, "We will continue to crash planes into major American Landmarks and Political centers untill our demands are met."Experienced union campaigner and pilot, Twee Inthours, was the first to make it to the huge pilots lounge
in the sky, when his plane, American Airlines flight 11, was ploughed into the World Trade Center. Shortly thereafter, union comrade Vear Rheeded, flying rival United Airlines flight 175 smashed his plane into the other WTC tower. Not long after that, 
United pilot Ana Thurcrash, and American pilot, Adair D'Pyelot, crashed their planes into a field in Pittsburgh and the pentagon respectively. It is not as yet clear what was the political, cultural relevance of the field in Pittsburgh. Ana Thurcrash, pictured right, was not the brightest button on the proverbial navigation panel, so to speak.All pilots, their crew and their passengers died on impact.
The pilot system of belief claims that all pilots go to a "pilot heaven" when they die in the cockpit of their plane. Pilot mythology, describes a pilot heaven that is sort of like a Giant Pilots Lounge, a much larger version of what they have at all international airports. Free booze for returning pilots, magazines, and as many of those tiny little frankfurt sausages that you can possibly eat.
President Bush, commenting on the incident, said that his administration will not negotiate with Pilots that behave in this way. New York Mayor, Rudy Giuliani, asked that the dispute be resolved quickly because he "Would like to keep some of his buildings".

I am of course talking about Australia and its population of absolute arseholes that won't allow a Norwegian ship and its cargo of a few hundred afghani refugees into Australian territory, and even if they were to do so, would never let the said Afghani's into Australian Society.
I don't know what troubles me more about this whole fisasco: that the Australian Governments stance has such popular support amoungst Australians, or that the ALP, my former Kebab eating mate Kimbo, is in full support of the Governments stance. Of course John Howard keeps on talking about something to do with his sovereign right as Prime Minister to be an absolute fucking arsehole. But what about human rights? What about the rights of Afghani's to play chess? Their right to free speech? Their right to be bear the religion of their choice? The right for women to walk loudly in public? The right to get onto the net and search "uncircumsized peni" at google and find their way here to Angstythink? What about those rights? Or do those rights come a distant second to our right to be racist (a strange right to have if ever i heard one)?
The media can sense this lack of compassion amoungst the punters, and it doesnt take long for them to jump on the band wagon and spread dangerously populist stories, full of lies and half truths, about the refugee situation. Terms such as "illegal immigrant" and "que jumper" are bandied about alot. I really doubt these people risk their lives in overcrowded rickety old boats, just so they can save some time bypassing the que of people that wish to migrate to Australia. I think a more likely scenario, is that these people have NO OTHER OPTION!! Do you think the fascist/fundamentalist, regimes from which these people are fleeing are likely to allow the official channels of legal migration to Australia to operate? The Taliban would be realllly pleased with individuals they catch trying to apply for a visa to Australia, a predominantely christian nation. There's not even an Australian embassy in Afghanistan..... let alone a place where they can fill in forms to apply for legal immigration to Australia.
Of course theres also alot of talk about, these people being infected with the deadly, highly contagious ISLAM disease, and a lot of the reasoning behind rejecting these people, even if not openly admitted by the Government, is that they are MUSLIMS. Aparently, so contagious is this ISLAM disease, that just being in the same country as one of these MUSLIMS as their called, can make you a MUSLIM yourself.
Silly as that is, that seems to be about the level that, alot of people, in Australia are working on. Fucking idiots. Allowing a handful of muslim refugees into Australia, is not going to turn Sydney into Jerusalem. Allowing a handful of muslim refugees to celebrate Ramadan in Australia, will not destroy Christmas in Australia. Allowing people of diverse cultural backgrounds into Australia, won't stop you personally being allowed to drink beer, eat meat pies and watch the fucking football/cricket.
Or you can forget about how fucked the world is and just go play this. The world always feels a little better after a few hours of first person perspective pong. Mainly because.... i cant feel anything after a few hours of first person perspective pong.
