Sleater-Kinney is an all-girl indie rock band from Olympia, Washington. Their sixth album is One Beat. And it rocks. Yessiree, it rocks hard.

The band started out doing straight forward punk rock, but since their fourth album, The Hot Rock they've slowed down a bit and experimented with pop rock.

'Oh!' is the first single of the new album. Richard Kingsmill has been playing it a bit on Triple J.
The band's vibrato vocals arent for everyone, but the guitar hooks are bloody brilliant. Enjoy.

ah yes, now this is what i'm talking about. From the land that brought us sushi and japscat come Mongol800... I stumbled upon this cd via a friend of mine who had a japanese exchange student, its some crazy crazy jap punk. Half of the cd is sung in japanese, the other half in some very substandard english, but thats what makes it so fucking good. Here's a sample of the lyrics:

I want make change world melody
Keep on singing. Its my goal in life
I want make change world melody
Don't need anymore. String of fucking lie.

oh yes, me rikey very much

Be at the UWA (University of WA) Tavern on friday the 23rd of August at 2:30pm.

Because these boys will be there battling it out agaist 2 other bands in the first round of the National Campus Bands Competition. The Belts are a Perth 4 piece that mix piano, infectious drum beats and catchy pop hooks in their old school rock and roll sound that leaves one thinking of The Beatles. Thats pretentious as hell to compare these young upstarts to the greatest band ever..... but there is no doubt that the influence is strong.

Their website is here
My apologies for getting both the link to "Always Time.." and the link to the belts website wrong. I was in a rush. Its fixed now.

'92 vs. '02 CollectionPrefuse 73 is the project belonging to Scott Herren, who also records under the alias Savath & Savalas and his own name. As you may have guessed from that last sentence, he is an electronica/hip-hop producer and is signed to Warp, home to Aphex Twin among others. His songs combine leftfield hip-hop beats with cut up samples that provide the framework for the songs as opposed to the focal point, in much the same way as recent Avalanches material.

"Desks. Pencils. Bottles" is taken from his recent EP '92 vs. '02 Collection which sees Herren integrating the fiddly clicks and glitches more often employed by his Warp labelmates into his sound. "Nuno" is taken from last year's Vocal Studies + Uprock Narratives album, and is characterised by the crackling of vinyl and chopped up samples. As an added bonus, it's a total mindfuck when listened to with headphones.

Wednesday, August 14 ??? 5:38 PM - Craggles

Queens of the Stone Age are back with a new album this month titled Songs For The Deaf. If it is even half as good as their last one it should be something pretty special.

The first single No One Knows is probably one of the catchiest songs I've heard this year. It's no surprise though as these guys are well known for there catchy riffs, that date right back to their Kyuss days. The very funny video for this track is up at their website and is worth a look, if you've got broadband and aren't to close to your cap. Forgot to mention, these guys have a new drummer, some dude called Dave Grohl ;)

I first heard about Eskobar on (Richard) Kingsmill's (JJJ) slot on Saturday afternoon. After listening to their song, I investigated more into their background, downloaded their mp3 singles and ended up importing both their albums. Eskobar is a band from Sweden whose music style is influenced by the UK pop/rock scene. If you want more info. visit http://www.eskobar.com

Here are 3 songs of theirs for your enjoyment:

Signing off! paradroid/pudgo

Blonde Redhead
Impress your artsy friends with music from this noise-art/prog-rock band. Sounds bloody weird at first but the hooks sink in after repeated listens.

Pretentious, inaccessable wankery? Maybe.
Great, catchy songs? Definitly.
The band are based in New York and is composed of a pair of Italian twins and a Japanese singer. Go figure.

Saturday, August 10 ??? 8:32 AM - Craggles

There seems to be a resurgence lately in the fuzzy sounds of 60's garage rock, lots of bands with "The" in front of their name. Of course this isn't a bad thing, it's nice to see groups taking a tried and true formula and make it new again for us kids that weren't 'round back then.

Cato Salsa Experience are regarded by many to be one of Norway's most promising young bands. Their raw, gritty yet surprisingly tuneful sound truly makes them stand out from the increasingly large crowd. Plus any band with organ and tambourine action is inherently cool right?

So, The Circus Is Back In Town is the first single off their new (and 2nd) album A Good Tip For A Good Time.

This is a nifty song that grooves along nicely. At first it sounds like a bit of a rip off of Oasis' Fucking In The Bushes but with more lyrics and no samples, but it evolves further into the song. And it has a neat recorder bit.

Info about the band here.
