Indie rock sucks this year. Indie hip hop, on the other hand, is kicking it old skool. So to speak. Danger Mouse and Jemini are um...okay look I'm not good at this whole hip hop phraseology thing. They're from New York, and they're on Lex Records which is also home to Boom Bip and Non Prophets. According to various authorities on this kind of thing, Jemini's flow be fresh and DM's skillz be mad. Typically of underground hip hop, their lyrics deal with more serious issues than your average no-brained 50 Cent record, but the pair also manage to slip in a choir of nuns singing "I'm giving bitches good dick," amongst other things, for those with shorter attention spans. The album Ghetto Pop Life also comes in at an ADD-pleasing 57 minutes (well, okay, maybe it's no Green Album, but it's short by hip hop standards).

The mp3 I'm posting is the title track from the album, which boasts the aforementioned line about delivering quality penis to feisty young wastrels. It deserves to be heard for that line alone. It also sounds spookily like "Squares" by The Beta Band, which is kind of prescient seeing as The Beta Band want to be a hip hop band anyway. But they can't, because they're Scottish and have red hair. There's a Welsh hip hop band who are kind of good though. I like tangents.
