You've probably heard "Woke up this Morning" playing at the beginning of the Sopranos, but chances are, that's about it. Alabama 3 is one of those bands that had the oxymoronic misfortune of a massive hit. Although none of their songs seem immediately radio friendly, the badass swagger of "Woke up the Morning" fit perfectly with the show, and for a little while, Alabama 3 were pop stars. But then comes the backlash. Radio bands aren't cool anymore to the stuck up music, and non radio-friendly bands aren't listened to by the general public. Alabama 3, like so many other bands, found themselves stuck in the state of limbo that eventually ends your album in the $3.99 bin.

Exile on Coldharbour Lane is an unholy mix of country, blues, gospel and techno. Lyrically, they go from references to God in one line, Jack Daniels in the next and heroin in the next. Vocalist and "analogue terrorist" Reverend Dr. D. Wayne Love (First Minister Of The First Presleyterian Church Of Elvis The Divine UK) is preaching the raddest gospel around these or any other parts.

I can't find ANY information on these guys. If anyoen knows any, please leave it in the comments. And while we're about group participation, help a fellow record geek out and list some other bands who've suffered a backlash from being one-hit wonders, but are still great.

For information, did you check out their website? It is still active and they list a couple of gigs in the UK this month.

http://www.alabama3.co.uk/

Oddly-themed site but most of the usual is on there.
