Halfday is (or possibly isn't - depending on who you ask) the brainchild of former
pretty violet stain guitarist, nathan lockwood. The brisbane trio have been busily putting together a nice repertoire and garnering support from touring since pvs hit the skids a few years back now. Following a delightful e.p. (
downstairs king) which was later re-released with a remix of the much spun (on triple j, anyhow) "heavy", the debut album is finally here. And it's quite an achievement. 'intelligent pop' will no doubt be a term nailed down with a clumsy hammer to it, but it's really a shame to pigeon hole it just there. Sure - the beatlesque harmonies and progressions which occasionally surface may lead you down that path - but don't forget to stop and smell the rest of the flora on the way.
Links to some of the mp3's available from their site below. "downstairs king" and "heavy" from the original ep are rather wonderfully included as bonus tracks on the album so if you like what you hear here - chances are you'll fall in love with the album. "i feel fine" is the current radio single.
halfday - downstairs king
halfday - heavy
halfday - i feel fine
Something that i'm very much looking forward to is fellow brisbane quintet 'Speedstar's new album. it's been a long time coming and should be worth the wait if word on the latest songs being given a run live are any indication...
