Chances are, you won't be seeing the Fembots' latest video, for "Broken and Blue", on TV anytime soon. The video is a grim portrayal of the lynching of Louis Riel and has been banned from the screen. Apparently, historical events are are too risque for the public.
Starting out as a duo, songwritters Brian Poirier and Dave MacKinnon have added drummer Jason Tait and violinist Julie Penner to fill out their live show. Constantly switching instruments, the group manages to create an intense stageshow. It's a bit country, a bit old horror movie, and a bit rock. Although their Austin Powers-inspired name may have you think otherwise, this does not mean four identical girls in bangs looking bored as they play synths.
The Fembots are currently signed to Paper Bag Records, home to controller.controller, Matthew Barber, Stars and Broken Social Scene.
