Date: March 27, 2004
Time: 8:00pm
Location: Commodore Ballroom
Event: Powderfinger concert w/ Guests
Cast:
Dude from Perth: Sitting next to me at my table was this dude from Perth. He was a very friendly fellow. Turns out that he?d come to Canada on a work permit, fell in love with a girl (does quoting the White Stripes still give me indie cred???) and got his VISA to stay. Very trashed, he kept hugging me, talking very close to my face and ?playfully? hitting me. A lot. Later on as I was busting a move to Powderfinger, I was constantly being jabbed in the back only to turn around and see the dude from Perth playing air guitar and singing to me.
Dude from Perth?s friend: Accidentally bumping into me as she took her seat, she did the requisite pat on the shoulder ?I?m sorry?, but decided to leave her hand there and start rubbing until I shuddered her off.
Dude from Perth?s other friend: Finding myself temporarily alone after a beer run, the girl to me right struck up a conversation with me. The conversation would have only made sense had we a) known each other for years or b) ever talked to each other before. The conversation, however, made no sense.
Jets Overhead: This band from Victoria, BC opened the show. Formally known as the Special Guests, the newly renamed band took over the 1000+ crowd with their epic rock sound. Soaring vocals, complex arrangements and a ?more rock, less talk? attitude got the crowd on their feet. A quick jaunt to the merchandise table got me a copy of their self-titled EP for a mere $5. Fantastic investment.
High Five Girl: While dancing to Powderfinger this girl kept high-fiving everyone. My friend informed me that she was known to the exchange students as ?High Five Girl?. As the show went on, she kept the hand slapping up, gave away a few almost finished beers and kept grabbing my hand.
Bald Dude: Quite the oddity. Did little more than hit me on the chest to comment on how great the show was.
