This might be a sudden departure from what you’re used to listening to, but I assure you that you will not be disappointed!

This band is unfortunately neglected even in its home country of Argentina, they are far better than most of the cheap tunes on the radio. They're called DDT (not to be confused with a Russian band of the same name), they used to be called Demonios De Tasmania - The Tasmanian Devils. They could have been international superstars if it wasn’t for the Spanish language thing and the fact that most English speaking countries think of Ricky Martin when they think of Spanish language music. Short dumb story, I was over my cousin's house in Buenos Aires, Argentina for the millenium celebrations (Dec 1999 - Jan 2000) and unfortunately fell asleep that Saturday afternoon, my cousin had gotten five tickets to see DDT but out of his own heart decided not to pressure us to go because he though that his ‘Yanky’ cousin along his ‘Yanky’ cousin's girlfriend would be better off enjoying the Buenos Aires Summer in his backyard. (It's very cold in New York at this time). I'm still ticked about it, many people said that show was great. Oh well, ‘ya fué’. Que los disfruten.

6 tunes being offered: They have a website - http://www.ddt.com.ar

Very difficult to find their albums, you might get lucky in the usual suspects - no need to name them if you know what I mean.

It is pleasing to notice that the arse end of the world has not been forgotten when it comes to the naming of Argentinian bands.

aaaaaahahahahahahaaaa.... no.

Scientists have discovered it is actually Tasmania that is the arse end of the world.

Comment posted by: ExistAngst at April 26, 2004 05:02 PM

Oh. I wonder what tests they did to work it out?

Comment posted by: Posted By at April 26, 2004 05:18 PM

I'm glad you ask.

They discovered that most of the people living in Tasmania are shit.

They therefore surmised that Tasmania must be the arse end of the world.

That's not very scientific.

i had a friend who stayed in argentina for a year and came back with some excellent music. one of the bands she got me into was mana. They're actually from Mexico, but from what she was telling me, they've been on MTV unplugged (and have no english songs) and are pretty big over in the southern americas. they're at www.mana.com.mx

Dear Terry:

A group like Mana is crap, the closest thing I can think of in American music would be something like Creed. I can really understand that if you visit a foreign country for a while, you might not get the same feel and understanding as living in it for a few years. Now, I don't mean to sound snobbish by saying that, what I want to convey is that there is a clear difference in the caliber of music within this forum and the music which is currently spinning on Top Ten radio stations around the world. This is a mostly no nonsense place in which good music is discussed, and to bring a group such as Maná into it is a bit of a let-down. If you are goung to introduce Mexican music I would sugest a Norteño Group such as Los Tigres Del Norte, which has been singing about the struggles of drug smugglers, prostitutes and such for over 25 years. A group like DDT is underground, has integrity, can write good pop melodies and have not sold out, something Maná can't honestly say they are. Don't mean to rain on your parade and I apologize if it seems that way, but a place like this works hard at stamping out mediocrity.

cortex

that's alright, even if i think you were a little brash. i havent heard too much myself, and its always good to get a second opinion on music. i happen to like them, but ive never been there and it's also good to get a few new names to put into kazaa as well. danke.
